When I stick a DVD into my DVD Super Drive, the DVD automatically
starts up. Depending on which G4 you have (I use a Quicksilver dual 1
Gig Processored one) there are volume controls on the keyboard (volume
up/down and mute). Make sure it isn't set to mute or have the volume
turned way down. There is also a remote control that appears when a DVD
is activated. I prefer the OS X version, but one also appears in OS 9
also. I haven't played a DVD recently in either OS, so I cannot tell
you whether there is a volume control on the remote, but I would check
there too. Otherwise, check your speaker connections (if any). Hope
this helps in some small way.

Good Luck
