Mine is in a poor location from the sound standpoint (on a desk, in a corner) but the level has dropped perceptibly. I would guess it is down in the mid-20's now?
My old PTP was 36-37 dba in the same location, before changing the fans. This MDD was noisier than the PTP ever was, and they were renowned for imitating a 747 on takeoff. > > My particular MDD machine isn't really all that loud to my ears... of > course, I run almost exclusively in OS X and the machine is under my > desk > with carpet underneath and sound deadening behind it. The firmware update a few month back fixed the uncontrolled fan in OS 9, so that's not an issue any more. Just overall noise levels. > > I'll post when I get some solid results... Be interesting. Since Apple is recruiting a sound engineer and states they are building a chamber, I guess they do not intend to have this issue ever come up in the future? <G> They deserve credit. For a long time they refused to acknowledge there was any "noise problem", but once they accepted it they came up with a solid fix.
