Most e-mail clients should work with the e-mail server provided it's 
POP or IMAP.  To access the served volumes you either need to have 
Services for Macintosh enabled (I think that is NT only), use 
PCMacLAN (www.miramarsystems.com) on the Windows machine or use Dave 
(www.thursby.com) on the Mac.  You will also have to have access 
through the network which is dependent on the particulars of the 
network.

I just today saw a fairly cheap ($60) 10BaseT to 802.11b adapter at 
MicroCenter.  That would work in place of the USB adapter.
