I stand corrected, sir!

Does that mean you have to give up your microphone?

Depends on what you are up to. I you want to use your mic directly into the
computer, plug it it. If you are working with line level output, which is what
boomboxes put out to harphones, use a 1/8" stereo plug directly into the
computer. If you have both RCA and 1/8" inputs on your card and your OS can
address them both, leave the mic in and use the RCA for line level input,
switching on the control panel.

On my set up I have a mixer feeding the computer. I have all kinds stuff going
into the mixer, which can go to the computer andto an amplifier. The computer
output also feeds the mixer. The mixer can take microphones in and put out line
level audio so I don't need the mic input on the computer.

I use the 1/8" plugs on the personality card only because I always have.. I
could as easily use the RCA plugs, but now I wonder if they work in OS X. I do
mean to check.

I hope this helps.
