68- and 80-pin drives have different model numbers from their otherwise 
identical 50-pin counterparts.

Apple used Seagate ST-15150N and ST-15150W in various models, so the 15150 
series, in all its flavors, seems to be accepted.

Not so for other manufacturer's models.

Converted drives usually requires HDT, or a hack to Drive Setup.

For most SCSI drives, taking the definition of a generic Seagate 
("SEAGATE,*"), say, copying it, then pasting a new resource as ID=128, and then 
editing 
that new resource to show a "wild card" drive model, is enough to make these 
converted drives usable by Drive Setup.

I am presently using Western Digital 18.3 GB UW-SCSI drives on my Beige G3, 
and the necessary support can be obtained by creating a new "WDIGTL,*" resource 
as ID=128 within Drive Setup.
