Yes, precisely. It is built into the case, not into the power supply. For the G3 DT, Apple simply reused the "7500 Case" part, rather than redesigning it. As a consequence, no allowance was made for SDRAM in the neighborhood of that finger guard. Obviously, there was no RAM sticks in that area on the predecessor machines. >> I wanted a DT instead of a MT ... >> Bad idea ... the MT case (and its 8600/9600 predecessor) was Apple's all-time best ever case. >> ... and after looking at some of my older powermac desktops i figured there was something i could cut away to allow the regular memory to fit ... then i saw the G3 wasn't the same. >> You can completely remove the finger guard, or you can smash it down a little. As it is, the finger guard is an "interference fit" fit with standard size (height) SDRAM sticks. If you elect to crump down the finger guard, so so a by about 1/4". That way it will more than adequately clear the tallest SDRAM stick. However, since the finger guard can be cleanly removed in about three minutes using only a Zona "razor saw", perhaps its best just to completely remove it. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
