You can do this, but it is so much easier, with less chance of coasters to use 2 optical drives.
Easier? Its the same in terms of ease, it is one less step to do it direct though. As far as coasters it is actually faster to read data from a hard drive than an optical media drive and therefore you do not have a lower coaster chance doing it direct.
