I have a CompUSA, Best Buy, OfficeMax and Office Depot nearby. Does anyone
know is any of them sell a DVD-CD player that will work in a Beige G3? I would
like a DVD-CD-RW but that may be stretching it a bit. I really do not need to
R/W to DVD but would like the ability to keep the CD-ROM R/W capability.

For your Beige, you will first need a Radeon 7000 video card and Apple's
software DVD decoder, Apple DVD Player 2.7 (plus a very simple hack).

You may then replace your CD-ROM drive with a DVD-ROM drive, or you may go to
a CD-ROM-R-R/W-DVD-ROM-R-R/W combo. Any one of the above sources is likely to
carry a Pioneer DVR-105/A05, which is precisely what an Apple SuperDrive is.

Pine sells a 105/A05 as does Cendyne and perhaps others.

The combination of a Radeon 7000, Apple DVD Player 2.7 and an Apple DVD-ROM
drive works well on my 9600 which was G3'd using a "Six Slot Edition" ZIF
carrier and the 333 MHz from my G3 MT. This CPU is run at 350 MHz.

My G3 MT now has a 533 MHz G3 (OWC, no longer available), a Radeon 7000 as
its only video (the on-board video is not connected), and a Pioneer DVR-105
CD-ROM-R-R/W-DVD-ROM-R-R/W combo.

There may indeed be some CD-ROM-R-R/W-DVD-ROM combo drives out there, but I
don't know of specific examples.
