When installing X.1 on to a G3/233DT, with a 4GB hard drive I ran into countless problems. The final solution was to break down the installation into about 10 steps. First install the base system and essential files. Then (after two or three attempts) when it finally installs, go back and install the other software and print drivers you need, the smaller the batch the better.
I also got a whole list of reasons why installing X onto a G3 DT would give problems... but I'm not sure where I put it......
