Would a Firewire enclosure be my only option?

It may not be the only option, but it shoudl work based on what I did as per below:

Here is the procedure I used in moving my files and my Jag 10.2.6 Operating System from a G3 B&W to my new G4 FW 800 ; and It should also work with the G5

I first used Carbon Copy Cloner to 100% clone my working internal bootup drive files to my external FW enclosure/drive (OWC Oxford 911/IBM 60GXP 40GB)

I then plugged the FW Drive into the G4 , booted up on the FW Drive ( it does boot up up this model and most likely on the G5 also); and then used CCC to clone back to the G4 "stock" 80GB seagate

The problem with the CD is that you have to use a process that copies all the invisible files.
The Mac internal CD burners/Disk Copy I believe will not do this. But I have read that Toast 5.2 will burn an OSX bootup drive , and hence all invisible files(?). I personally have not tried this with Toast

This is a good post, and I am quite sure mucho guys on this list will reply with other solutions
