Beyond my video problem of appearing and disappearing horizontal lines, my objective with my G3 Beige is for it to replace in function (if not in style) of my original Blueberry iBook Clamshell. That means that it should have a little relative speed and be able to run OS X without too much delay.
Here are the basic stats: ------------------------------------- iBook Machine speed 300 MHz Bus speed 67 MHz L2 cache size 512K Memory 288 MB Video ATY RageM 4MB VRAM 4 MB ------------------------------------- G3 beige (currently) Machine speed 233 MHz Bus speed 67 MHz L2 cache size 512K Memory 128 MB (64,32,32) Video ATY mach64 2MB VRAM 2MB ------------------------------------- Atleast inregards to Bus speed and L2 cache, I seem to be there. Although I am confused if increasing the Bus speed should be done. I think I need to do the following: 1. Overclock the processor to 300MHz Currently with the 128 MB RAM, 266 MHz is stable and 300 MHz is alittle funky. 2. Increase RAM I know the more ram, the better, but lets say if I get myself to 352 MB (3 chips: 256 MB , 64 MB, 32 MB). Will that be enough or do I need more? 3. Increase VRAM or get a PCI video card Increasing the VRAM I think would be a good idea if I can solve the horizontal line problem. With PCI video cards when I do a look on ebay or elsewhere, I am never sure which ones I could use (Mac, not PC) and the ones that do look like they could work seem more expensive then they should be for antiquated stuff. Since the rest of the world has more to AGP, I would think that PCI cards should be cheaper. So if I did these things would the performance match that of the clamshell iBook or is there something else I need to do. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
