I suppose that my idea of a 7/8/9xxx A/V system w/ a G3 upgrade was not a great idea, as nobody even mentioned that.
I have known about the USB/FireWire capture options for a while, but I am not that impressed with them. Most are limited to 320x240 capture resolution that I have seen, especially the USB ones. This is why I wanted a PCI solution. There are TONS of these cards for PC's - why are the Mac cards (the few that exist) so damn expensive?? The PC cards would work in PCI Macs just as well, all that is needed is drivers for Classic and OS X. A company would clean up if they'd just write some drivers...
Anyway, looks like I have to go with what I thought I would - a B&W G3 or a Sawtooth G4 (for cost / benefit reasons), both of which hopefully will get even cheaper once the G5's hit the street next month. The larger hard drive is a given with video capture, and I have an 80 GB ATA/100 already in a PC that I can use.
Thanks for the info, and if anyone has any other suggestions I'll be glad to listen!!
Michael
