Greetings all,
I have an odd one involving burned CDs.
Here are the players:
Beige G3 tower/333mhz/384mg RAM
OS 9.04
Adaptec Toast 4.13 (last version before selling it to Roxio, iirc)
Yamaha SCSI 8x4x24 CD-RW
oem 24x Atapi CD drive using Apple CD/DVD as the driver.
History: I had posted this query earlier, and one of our colleagues
suggested making sure that the "ISO 9660 File Access" extension was active -
it was missing, so I got that put in; seemed to have fixed the problem but
not completely, as the problem has resurfaced.
Problem: the OEM CD drive can mount, read, and copy from any commercial CD
you put into it, as well as boot up from a system CD. It works just fine,
except: it does not read any RECENTLY home-burned CDs. If I put in a
home-burned CD (burned by the Yamaha) that I created several months ago, or
a CD that someone else burned, it mounts fine; if I put in a newly-created
CD (as in, within the last month or so), I get the error message "this disk
cannot be read by this computer. do you wish to initialize?" (with the
choice to init or eject).
What I've done so far: If I take the same CD to another machine, it mounts
fine, verifying a successful burn from Toast. If allowed to verify, Toast
will indicate the CD burn was successful.
I've trashed all Toast components, and re-installed, re-burned a CD
(successfully, according to the other machines).. same dilemma.
I've yet to replace the ATAPI CD drive to see if it is a drive problem
(tomorrow I'll do that), but in the meantime, any thing else come to mind?
Sorry for the long post. Thanks to all for your consideration.
Best regards,
Dana
