Beige on 9.2, PM 7200 on 8.6

Why can't I get them to talk to each other? They each recognize the 
other other is there, but when I go to connect and type in my password 
I get this message:

LOGIN FAILED: Unknown user, incorrect password, or log in is disabled. 
Please retype the name and password or contact the servers 
administrator.

Well Ive contacted myself every time and I concur that all is correct. 
Background is this:

I'm using a Linksys 4 way router with a 12" PB, Beige G3, 7200 Power 
Mac and either a Compaq PC or Performa 636CD. The PB and Beige talk 
fine, but everything else is whacked.

What am I supposed to do with this error message?
