Make sure you have a rev 2 or 3 rom to add a slave drive
Do I buy a IDE or a ATA drive and how do I format it?
simple answer, as far as you need to be concerned, is that they are two names for the same thing. Format it with Apple's drive setup or disk utility, depending on your OS.
Also what would be a good model to get as I intend to do some video editing with iMovie.
Lots of opinions on drives. My recommendation is to get one from a reputable vendor and BACK UP FREQUENTLY. More important than the drive is how you are going to hook it to your Mac. The onboard ata maxes out at about 5 meg/sec transfer rate, which will be pretty painful for video editing. If you are getting into video, I recommend getting an ata card (at least a 66 if not faster). My Ahard 133 gets almost 40 meg/sec transfers.
In addition which Radeon card will work in my G3 and give me use of a 2nd monitor and do I leave in the video card that's already installed (ATI mach64_3DU)?
Either Radeon, the Radeon Mac Edition ( the original one) or the Radeon 7000 Mac edition will work. I have seen reports of flashing a pc 7000 to the Mac, if you want to get your hands dirty and save some money.
The video that is already installed is on your motherboard and can not be removed.
