Thanks for your reply

pretty sure os x has to be with in the first 8gig. also, are you planning on
keeping os 9 apps with 9 and os x apps with x? if so, your probably ok...

Isn't the 8 gig limit for beige G3's only?? I know that I had this limit on my beige G3's.

Yes it is. It's for Beige G3's and a couple others from that era. The G4's have no partition issues reguarding the 8 gig thingy.....

My friend is a photographer, not really a computer person. He will tend to keep 9 apps with 9 and x apps with x. He has a lot of photography programs and stuff that is os9. I am trying to get him running in os x with 9 emulation and everything working. I am thinking of setting up a firewire drive to try this out (he has several) and if it works put it internally.

When X emulates 9 does it use the 9 partition? Or does X have it's own code for 9?

It 'connects' to 9.2.2 as a 'Classic' environment. It actually looks pretty ugly when you are used to OSX.... :))

 Partition 1 MacOS9.2.2 20 gig (install first)
Partition 2 MacOSX (Jag) 20 gig (install second)
Partition 3 General storage 80 gig

Any problems here?

Myself, I'd put OSX on the first partition, and would prolly give it a tad (10 GB) more room. Once your friend gets used to X, he's gonna need more space.....

20 gig sounds good for 9.2.2
