i'm not sure - i know it has to be for the g3's, but i think it's advisable for other systems too...
the other thing is the 'main' os used should ideally be in the 1st partition of the disk and therefore the 1st area of the disk to be accessed. not sure how much influence this has over the speed of the disk or os operations but i think it's advisable. when you boot classic in x it runs it as an application inside the x environment, so in effect, it's like running an app - doesn't matter where it's held on the disc. x does put extensions and other bit's into the os9 system folder when you launch classic but it will tell you when it does it. this doesn't effect booting into os 9. the other thing to consider is creating two extension sets in os 9 - one for classic and one for booting into os 9. holding down the option key at start up, letting you boot into open firmware and then choosing the disk to start ip from. if you then hold down the space bar you can choose an extension set to use. you can reduce the amount of ram classic uses by disabling the extensions it wont use, eg. networking and graphics. hope this helps, jake On 13/8/03 3:22 pm, "Larry Blodgett" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Thanks for your reply > >> pretty sure os x has to be with in the first 8gig. also, are you planning on >> keeping os 9 apps with 9 and os x apps with x? if so, your probably ok... > > Isn't the 8 gig limit for beige G3's only??
