(I used to add some music sounds to the startup folder).

It does this sort of. Only they are added to a file instead of making a

bunch of small separate files.

Well I meant that by doing so the sound file would play on startup (sorta
like the Windows MS sound on PeeCees) since my husband used to brag that Mac's
couldn't do that. Now they really can't cause they open iTunes to do it. :-\

Lil

Sorry Lil, I was actually restating a feature of iTunes and kind of forgot about this part of your question. X doesn't do that specifically, but there is software that will do this.

Classic Startup Sound - plays sounds at startup
Login Sounder - plays a sound when you login
MooSB - plays sounds at various system events
Play Sound - uses applescript to play MacOS sounds
Quick Startup Sound - plays quicktime supported sounds at startup
System Sound Extension - plays system 7 sounds in the finder

All found at versiontracker.com (aren't they wonderful?). Some look like they haven't been updated in a while, but they probably still work.
