To fix the copying music problem, go to Preferences, Advanced, and uncheck the box that says "copy to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library" (not verbatim).
So where would it copy it to then? And if you picked a different folder, what would the difference be?
iTunes has been as stable as anything else I have used, once I figured out these little tricks.
Doesn't change a thing. I've tried it with all the boxes checked and unchecked in all the prefs. I've also tried multiple cd's. Then I went into an old iTunes folder and opened it up in Classic, but then the CD wouldn't show up!

Before iTunes 4, I used to be able to add cd's that I own to my
library. Now they start to import and iTunes crashes within 5 seconds!
It just crashed on me 8 times in a row and I tried multiple different
ways......
Fix or suggestions?
Is iTunes 4 made so it won't add converted songs from cd's to it's library now?
