All it says on the side is Laserwriter II. All the Laserwriter IIsomething descriptions are installed, but the printer isn't available in the Chooser, which is why I assumed there was something missing, that had been available in earlier system versions.

The printer was previously running with a Q700 and system 7.0.1.
Unfortunately the owner tried to "fix" his system by deleting stuff
from the system folder, and I have no idea which description it's
been running from earlier.

So, there was no Laserwriter II ?

You are looking at the wrong problem. The printer will show up in the
chooser even without ANY printer drescriptions in the System folder. The
printer descriptions are for printer specific options, but you should be
able to print to any Postscript laser printer without them.

Where you need to focus you attention is on the network settings and
physical connection to the printer.
Do you have the LaserWriter 8 option in the Chooser? This is the Generic
term for all networked Postscript laser printers.

My memory says that the Laserwriter II was NOT a postscript printer- that is actually why it wont work at all with OSX. So it DID need a different printer driver than the generic Laserwriter 8.

Don't remember which one, tho...
