All machine control systems (Siemens, Fanuk etc) rely on RS232 and floppy disks, something the Mac gave up a long time ago. May seem dated but as one is often only talking about small text files being transferred, who need FireWire and CD/RW for 50KB files ?!?
No one, hence why built-in networking has always been included on a Mac. It takes even less than walking from office cubicle to office cubicle with a floppy.
