Lil,
I have this arrangement on my 333mhz beige G3 tower - I use the 24x IDE CD
to boot from, and the SCSI burner (8x4x24) does all the burn work (of
course).
I'm using an updated Toast 4.1.3: if I put the included Adaptec Toast CD
reader into the extensions folder, I can also boot and mount from this drive
(a Yamaha unit) if I so choose. Interestingly, the Toast extension does not
conflict w/ Apple's CD/DVD driver at all (unlike my experience w/ FWB's
CD-ROM Toolkit, which always had to have the Apple driver squirreled away
for fear of conflict*) - the two tend to co-exist fine, at least in my
machine (I'm running OS 9 on it).

Hope this helps,
Best regards,
Dana

(*Long ago, I used to think that FWB wrote good drivers, but I've tended to
regard them as inconsistent, unreliable, and generally disagreeable with
anything happening today; and they're expensive! - my humble opinion)
