I'm using an updated Toast 4.1.3: if I put the included Adaptec Toast CD reader into the extensions folder, I can also boot and mount from this drive (a Yamaha unit) if I so choose. Interestingly, the Toast extension does not conflict w/ Apple's CD/DVD driver at all (unlike my experience w/ FWB's CD-ROM Toolkit, which always had to have the Apple driver squirreled away for fear of conflict*) - the two tend to co-exist fine, at least in my machine (I'm running OS 9 on it).
