Howdy All..

Ok..When I start my computer, I get a light gray screen with two and a half lines of the following text: "can't OPEN:" ..then the screen blanks and the normal startup process begins..

I was told to restart and hold down the Command+Opion+O+F keys. OK. I get a screen like this:

Open Firmware, 2.0f1

To continue booting the MacOS type:
BYE(return)
To Continue booting from the default boot device type:
BOOT(return)
For Open Firmware serial I/O type:
TTYA IO(return)
  ok

---------------------------------------

Ok I have received instructions to type:
reset-nvram(return)

When I do this I get the following on that line:

unknown word

If I type BOOT(return) I get the following: can't OPEN:

--------------------------------------

My internal CD-ROM is not working and my external firewire CD-RW drive will burn disks ok, but if I try to listen to a cd with iTunes or QuickTime the machine freezes..

I have a pci ata controler card with two hard drives hooked up to it...I have no hard drives hooked up to the ata controller on the original motherboard..

Is all of this related somehow?

Anybody know what is going on?

System: Beige desktop G3 - upgraded w/OWC G4-466 - 640 RAM - OS 9.2.2 - 80 GB HD

TIA,

Ken

PS: My previous problem with double-restarts is fixed..
