First off, I'd like to say howdy, to all y'all out there in G3-land. Right now, I've only got 1 beige G3, which is my "FrankenMac" beige tower, that started life as an AIO. If I ever get around to repairing/replacing the PSU in the AIO case, and replacing the "gut" that now reside in the tower, I'll have...well...bride of FrankenMac <G>. Um...unless I swap the parts from the tower back to the AIO (yes, folks, I'm nearly THAT crazy).
Now that introductions are out of the way, I need to ask a quick question about the RAM residing in my Mac. Since I bought my AIO G3, new and direct from Apple, back in August 1998, I've eventually upgraded it to the 768 megs max. RAM, at two different times in the five years I've owned it. About a month or two ago, someone had suggested that I download DIMM First Aid, to keep better track of the health of my DIMMs. I hadn't thought of it, till I joined this list, but could mixed DIMM types cause any problems, with the performance of the system? I opened DIMM First Aid, and it reports: J3 = DIMM configured for 256MB, 10.0ns PC66-222 J4 = DIMM configured for 256MB, 7.5ns PC133-333 J5 = DIMM configured for 256MB, 7.5ns PC133-333 All DIMMs are reported to be OK, but I'm just wondering if I would see any benefit, to try to find two more DIMMs like in the J3 slot, or maybe even replace all three with PC100-222? I'll eventually be using this Mac as a hard disk based recording studio, so when I get to that point, I want it to be at peak performance, which means that I plan to replace my 2 internal HD's with 120GB WD's w/8MB cache, but that's another post, at another time. Finally, keep up the good work, with this list, Dan!
