I am planning to purchase a 17" LCD monitor for my B&W G3/350 (Rev.2) (running OS 8.6, 440 RAM, 60GB HD) as my heavy Phillips 19" CRT recently died. I'm a docotoral student and most of my work involves word-processing (minimal graphics) so the analog LCD is fine for me. Here are my questions:

1.) Are most LCD's compatible with the B&W and do I need to have any special software or hardware to use LCD's with this machine?

2.) Can anyone suggest an excellent & reliable LCD manufacturer & model that has sharp contrast and good colour? I've heard some horror stories about LCD screens that have poor backlights or sections on the screen where the colours aren't working properly. I've also read in numerous magazines that many monitors don't live up to their high contrast/resolution ratios (e.g., 400:1 or 450:1) -- how can I make sure i'm getting what they indicate on the specs?

3.) Would a 3 yr warranty be the minimum to look for? I realize i'll likely have to look at a number of them before I find the one that best suits my needs.

Any other tips for buying an LCD would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

kind regards, Sue
