Actually there are G4 upgrades for iMac DV's and other slot-loading iMac's. It's $299. Check out:

I have no commercial connection to them but have bought products from them. John

You may do better to write to the iMac list for questions about them, but
sounds like steve knows what he's talking about. iMacs just weren't designed
w/ hardware upgrades in mind like the G-3's were.
Looking for the address I learned that the imac list now has about 500
subscribers vs about 400 for the g-list.
Go to this url for info on it and subscription address:

Subject: Trying to save my friendly Mac...

I just read an article that seemed to imply that I could save my friendly
but a bit slow iMacDV G3 by installing a G4 processor card. Not being a
techie, it sounded almost too good to be true. Does this really work? What
are the problems, if any?

Thanks!

As far as I'm aware there are no processor upgrades available for your DV
slot loading iMac, only for the older tray loaders. They had a removable
processor card, the DV doesn't.
The best you can do with your iMac DV is to max out the RAM and fit a larger
faster 7200 rpm hard disk, I did this to my DV 400.
