Did you try Mt. Everything from Dana Collins' post? The fact that the HD is not showing on the desktop is not a reason to panic, per se. I agree with the previous post from Dana, you probably need to update the drivers for your upgrade card (this is one "problem" with upgrade cards), but you'll need to address this current issue first.

This could be as simple as reloading the disk drivers. I would do this:

Boot the machine from the 8.1 CD. Open Drive Setup and see if it sees the drive at all. It may list it as "<not mounted>". If so, click on it and choose the menu to reload the disk drivers. Restart. Does drive show up? If not, repeat with 8.6 CD. Let us know what happens.

Hello all,

I am still having problems with my G3 7100/240. The hard drive has
completely disappeared from the desktop, even using Norton or OS 8.6 as
start up disks. I am now at a complete loss.

Bear in mind that this is a the original paltry little 160 MB HD and it
was running OS 8.1 until I decided to upgrade to 8.6. Never got the
chance, the hard disk vanished when I restarted and held down the "C"
key.

Ideas, suggestion, prayers!! This is my 5 year olds Jumpstart computer.

TIA,

Dan

Thanks,

Glenn
