that's a parallel port connection for PCs, NOT a SCSI connection. Although the connectors are physically the same, parallel is not SCSI and won't work to hook this to the mac. You could let the magic smoke out of either the printer or your SCSI controller on the laptop. Don't try it if you have not already. The only mac-capable, SCSI printer I've run into was an ALPS dye-sublimation printer with a special add-on; HP tech pages say there is no SCSI add-on for the 870 so you can't have something I've not seen before :) >I think the 870 was designed to go both ways, MAC and PC? yes, DIN8 serial for Mac, parallel port for PC. try google-ing for "HP 870 specifications" and skip all the injet refill hits. >Anyway, how do I get from the USB on the lombard to EITHER of the ports >on the HP? >Without spending an arm and a leg, if possible? Look for a USB-to-parallel adapter from Strydent, www.strydent.com <http://www.strydent.com/strydent-software-products/strydent-products.html> but it costs more than a cheap USB inkjet. Some earlier Infowave models (Strydent bought Infowave, or at least the printer adapters) might work, and might be cheaper on ebay. the 870 isn't super new so probably an Infowave USB to parallel adapter will work. They aren't just cable/pinout adapters, there is some logic and buffering etc in the chips to make the magic happen. So you can't just wire your own readily. HTH.
