<< I just realized that my G4 Sawtooth has no floppy drive (it's been ages
since I have had a need for one). What is a simple, low cost option for
external floppy drive? Can a drive sold for PC's also work? Will OS 10.2.6
recognize a PC fomatted floppy?
Thanks,
Ken >>
Jo's suggestion apparently assumes the floppies in question are archives,
and you don't wish to alter them. If you intend to alter the floppies,
storing on CD is of little use, but an interesting and more permanent alternative
for large stacks of archive floppies.
Another suggestion is to get a USB device that reads your floppies. I'm
using an Imation SuperDisk USB floppy drive that reads Mac & PC, in both 1.4MB
& 120MB formats with my iBook 2001 (dual USB). The Imation drive version I
have has the white translucent case with a model number indicating it was
marketed for the Mac, but much of their product line was useable on both platforms.
This one needed no software, but was quite literally plug-and-play on my iBook.
ps - I also have an orphaned twin of this drive, in working condition,
with no power supply or USB cable. If anyone wants it, it's free for the
shipping cost. You'll need your own power supply and USB cable, and the cable is
proprietary, not standard. Please e-mail me off-list, with the subject "Imation".
