Maybe this is a big "duh" but do you use the same
AirPort card in a laptop and a desktop? I only ask
because I picked up an AirPort card cheaply--one that

in my G4/AGP tower last night and the computer didn't
recognize it. (When I tried to start the AirPort
software, there was a message like, "The computer
didn't detect the necessary hardware...") Anyhow, I
don't know if I just put it in wrong or if I'm using
the wrong card or if I'm just an idiot. Help?

Michelle,

Yes, it is the same card.

You basically need four things to make it work: the Airport card, an Apple Airport base station (or other brand wireless router), the AirPort software, and a compatible computer.

Your G4/AGP is a compatible machine. You might read through Apple's Tech Info Articles 58536 and 106590. #58536 has very nice installation instructions for the G4/AGP.

There are some ISP services that are not compatible with wireless connections. You might verify that your service provider is OK with wireless.

You did not mention which OS you are using, or what brand wireless router you are using.
