It is hard to change my mind-set. Looking for the latest instead of waiting for the problems. I guess it is up to Apple as to how well they do. Sun users definitely tend to wait.
yeah, once you've had something barf all over your sendmail configuration via an ill-timed patch it really makes you think twice and thrice before just rushing out and doing something...
I think on the whole Apple is managing to corral the unruliness of Unix pretty amazingly; the people guiding their OS development seem to 'Get it'. They're certainly doing so better than MS is...the bugger-all nightmare of viruses and worms we've had this summer have been a HUGE PITA.
But, it's a bit hard to tell whether Apple is doing good or it's because we're in such a target-rich environment what with completely insecure systems like Windows and poorly managed Linux systems on the net, it's not worth the time and bother to hack into the more different systems.
(Sun admins are *nothing* like Oracle DBA's when it comes to 'old-fogey-hood'.
I was in an Oracle DB Admin class a year or so back and several people there were still *considering* moving from Oracle 6. (At the time Oracle was just starting to roll out Oracle 9...)
We ourselves are still at Oracle 8.1.6.
"if it ain't broke...")
