Quartz Extreme is enabled in OSX for AGP graphics only. There is a "hack" which enables QE on PCI versions of the RADEON series of PCI display cards. I have QE enabled on my Radeon Mac Edition (original, not 7000) in an unsupported Umax S900/G3 400, and it makes the difference between OSX being usable or not. Without it, the GUI is really sluggish. If you have a PCI Radeon card in your B+W, you'll notice a big difference if you enable the QE with the hack.
