Apple basically said Mac OS X would be fully functional on *ALL* Macs, G3 and later.
But it turns out that a number of standard OS X features don't work on older G3s, because Apple never bothered to write/provide certain drivers. Furthermore, OS X is abysmally slow and unstable on those machines. These problems were never fixed, and Apple refused to give refunds.

Apple never made claims it would run blazingly fast on all supported systems, nor that it would would be fully function on older systems (i.e. the Beige G3). The release statement simply says it will run on all supported systems, and it does. It's quite useable even on a Beige G3/233 (assuming you have more than just 128MB RAM installed). Heck it will even install and run on a G3/233 with only 96MB RAM (I know, I tried), very slowly.

Original press release from the 2000 release is:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2000/jan/05macosx.html

Note that it states only a requirement of a system that shipped with a G3 or G4 and 64MB RAM. In fact no press release regarding OS X ever claimed full functionality for any supported computer. If you know of one that does, please point us in the direction of the claim by Apple that does.

It's quite nice on my Bronze Lombard 333.

Under the terms of the class action settlement, Apple now has to cough refunds. But as is typical in corporate america, they don't have to admit to any wrong doing or provide fixes.

The tragidy here is that a few people that feel "wronged" are forcing their favored company to bleed money for them.
