I was given a 233 MHz G3 AIO. I would like to upgrade it and am looking for suggestions.
It had 32 MB of memory when I received it, I have since added 128 MB of memory and am looking for good deals on a 256 MB chip. The added memory helps a lot. I am looking for suggestions and advice for further upgrades. What OS is receommended for this system? It has 8.1 installed. I have OS 8.5, 9.2.2 and 10.1 available. Are these good choices for the AIO? If not, what would be better? Does any version of OSX run acceptably on these machines provided there is enough memory installed? What does adding VRAM accomplish? I know it will let me go to more colors and higher resolution. If I stick with fewer colors and lower resolution will it speed up the video any? 400 MHz G3 ZIF chips seem pretty easy (and inexpensive) to come by. Is the step up from 233MHz to 400 MHz worth it? There seems to be a big price jump if you go above 400 MHz ZIF chips. Does anybody have experience installing PC compatibility boards in an AIO? I have an OrangePC 626 PPC copmpatibility card. I understand that this will not work with the AIO internal monitor, but if I use an external monitor, will it work? Does anybody have experience in using these compatibiltiy cards in an AIO? Have I used up my allocation of questions? - Duffey ______________________ James R. Duffey KK6MC/5 Cedar Crest NM 87009 DM65 -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
