No. If you can see the drive, you don't need to initialize it.

Try it without innitializing it and see if it works.  I had an awful time with
some drives that weren't innitialized again when moved from the native bus on my
Beige to the ATA 133.  It looked fine but data didn't move correctly.

They say that you can replace the drivers using Hard Disk Speed Tools without
initializing, so the data stays intact.  This didn't work for me, but I have an
old, bundled version of HDST. 

On the other hand, a drive that was initialized in my Firewire/usb box runs fine
on the ata 133 board without redoing it.
