Whatever utility you use will put the correct Mac drivers on the drive. If you are moving a card with valuable data on it from the motherboard to the new card, it isn't quite that simple.
I spent weeks trying to figure out why a drive originally formatted on the motherboard bus wouldn't perform properly on my new ATA card even though it looked fine on the desktop and files usually read correctly. But I couldn't copy large files to it without getting errors. It all looked good, but it wasn't. I backed up everything and reinstalled and it has been fine since. Hard Drive Speed Tools will automatically offer to install the correct drivers on a drive moved from the motherboard to the card without affecting data. Quick and easy. This is supposed to work but I seem to remember having problems with it mostly due to the version of HDST I'm stuck with. Members of this list have reported good results, however. That ATA card breathes new life into our old computers. For example, I use iDVD. If the iDVD file is on the 7200rpm drive attached to my motherboard, I get errors while burning, but the drives on the ATA card work fine!
