Does restarting help? If not in OS10, Restart selecting OS9 as the start up disc. Then reject the zip. Then reselect OS10 as the start up disc.
In my desktop beige G3, I have found rebooting and selecting OS9.2
as the start up disc works. In OSX. I save what I want copied or work with a Zip to a folder. Then reboot with OS9 as start up, copy and eject etc...then reboot...I know a pain, but works.
Same for info going into the Computer from a zip. Start up OS9, copy the zip, then restart in OSX.
Of course there is always the shutting down the zip drive and using the paper clip. Don't know if your zip is internal or not....

Is the zip disk partitioned?
How did you try ejecting it? Using the button in the finder or dragging the zip disk icon to the trash?
