No sound out or in on a G3 DT w/10.2.8

I was noticing that there was no sound out on a G3DT I set up with 
10.2.8.  At boot there is the normal chime so the hardware is okay. 
I check the sound control panel and found that there are neither a 
sound out driver nor sound in driver.  My Wallstreet which is roughly 
the same generation of hardware has both sound out and sound in 
drivers.

Questions:

1  Is this normal?

2  If not, how can the needed files be added?

3  What are the needed files?
