Shreve Systems is currently selling G4 Gigabit motherboards for $299. Since these have 3 PCI slots & 1 AGP (as opposed to PERCH) slot, would this board fit into a beige G3 Mini-Tower case? From what I'm seeing, in pricing components and upgrades alongside used G4s, I *might* come out cheaper, to build a G4 with my current case, IF the motherboard will fit...and, if the Gigabit G4 PSU would swap in place of the beige MT PSU.
Also, I've recently purchased a PowMax aluminum mid-tower ATX case (w/400W PSU), with the intention to build a PC. I've seen a "FrankenMac" G4 that was built into an ATX case, although it was actually an upgraded PM 8xxx board (I looked at the system configuration with ASP). I've also looked at some ATX desktop cases, in considering my G4 needs, and by the time I'd buy the Gigabit G4 board, and the other goodies to go on it, I'd come out *just about* what I'd spend on a used G4, and not have to upgrade. Which is the best way for me to go? The PowMax case I'm definitely going to use to build a PC, but I'm looking for the quickest route to a G4 Power Mac, short of a G4 ZIF upgrade on my G3 board. Or should I just go with a G4 ZIF upgrade, and concentrate my building efforts on filling my PowMax case?
