There were a couple of factory installed SCSI cards. Which one do you have?
sorry for the late reply. it is the Adaptec 2940U2B (as shown in System Prof).
on the advice received on Mac-L, I'm looking into PCI cards at the moment. I'm suspect of the on-board ATA and possibly my cable -- might as well hit them both at once.
