Hi Glenn, You shouldn't have to change settings on the router just the do file sharing (except DHCP perhaps, see below). You just have to make sure that both compu's are in the same network range. Things to check: You talk about private IPs, if so make sure that both the laptop and the Mac are in the same range f.e Mac has IP 192.168.1.100 and PC has 192.168.1.101. Subnetmask should be 255.255.255.0 on both, and DNS should be 192.168.1.1 or the IP number of your router (which can be 192.168.1.1). Check the Mac's settings and fill in the same settings on the PC (control panel/network/tcp ip\properties). Make sure the compu's have different IPs. Even easier is if your router has DHCP, if so turn it on, than set the Mac's network settings to DHCP and the PC to 'get an automatically IP and DNS' (which is default). Besides turning on file sharing you shouldn't forget to add the WORKGROUP name of the PC (usually MSHOME), you can do this on the Mac with the app Directory Access IIRC, you can find it in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. OS X only shares you user folder, but there's SharePoints with which you can share your whole HD (search VersionTracker). I use it at home on my B&W G3 server which serves several Macs and PCs and works perfectly. HTH, Marc BTW IIRC I asked this before, but forgot, but what is the model no of that Toshiba combo drive you've got in that G3? * * -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
