There is a freeware program that allows digital backup on digital camcorders via
a firewire port. Don't recall the name but it looked neat. The digital storage
capacity of a one hour DV tape is disappointing, though. You'd do better on a
DVD if I recall it correctly.


There were some hardware solutions to digital backup on VHS tape but I don't
know if it worked on Mac and I think it is long forgotten.


Audio storage on VHS is easy. HiFi VHS tracks give excellent sound even in six
hour mode.
