G4 Dual (mirrors) 867MHz, 2GB, 10.3.2
I been running into the "gray curtain of death" lately (started in Jaguar, persists in Panther), so I ran Apple's Hardware Test CD to check out the memory... Sure enough, I got an error on my #3 DIMM slot. Shut everything down, pulled the DIMM and replaced it with a fresh 512. No good. In fact, I swapped out every DIMM in the machine---and no matter what I stick in the #3 slot, it reads as a memory error. Despite this, my profiler shows that I'm still running a full 2GB+ memory.
QUESTION: Do I trust Apple's old Hardware Test CD (from 2002) on this one? Is there a more current alternative to Hardware Test? If this bugger is accurate, and my #3 slot is fried, will I have to go into hock to repair it?? Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks!
