So, does anyone know how to boot

Thanks everybody,

On a Beige machine Startup Disk won't work for this. You need a program called
System Disk 2.6.2. It's some where on the Apple site.
While booted in 9, tell System Disk which X system installation you wish to boot
from. That's where your computer will go next time you reboot and becomes your
default boot system. If you want to boot into 9, hold the OPTION key down until
a bit after the chime and you'll go to the last 9 system you used (I have 3 os 9
system folders for varius reasons.) I think it may choose the last os9 system
you opted for in Startup Disk.
This works very well, though is not as convenient as later machines which can
give you the choice on screen after the chime.
