I Googled 'System Disk 2.6.2' but the things I found only refered to it's usr on OSX server and OSX beta. can anyone throw any light on it's use in jaguar please? Thanks Andrew --- end of quote --- Sytem Disk 2.6.2 runs in OS 9, not in 10. When you run it, it finds all the bootable systems on your computer and you can select which one you want to boot from as your default. This sounds like the Startup Disk control panel in 9 and the Startup Disk preferences pane in X, but it seems to work differently. Startup Disk in 9 will not get you back to 10 on a Beige machine. System Disk will. (Startup Disk in 10 will get you back to 9 ok, but you'll need System Disk to get back to 10.)
As I said before, the trick is to make an os 10 system your default through System Disk. Then if you want to boot in 9, you hold down the option key at boot and that's where you'll go. If I remember correctly, "option" gets you the last os 9 system you selected in the Startup Disk control panel in 9. If you have several os 9 system folders, this is good to know. (You should have a very simple os 9.2 system to use for Classic, with unnnecessary extensions removed so it will load quickly...one good reason to have more than one os 9 system folder.) This all works very easily and routinely. I use programs unique to 9 and to 10 so I'm switching back and forth all the time on my Beige MT. No problem at all. Here is the url to get System Disk 2.6.2: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31256 The readme says "This version of System Disk can only be used with Mac OS X Server 1.2." Don't let this bother you. I am using it with os 10.2.8 and os 9.2.2. Works fine. I hope this helps. Before someone on this list cleared this up for me a year ago, I was totally up the creek. It was great to get the help and I'm happy to pass it on. Rich -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
