G4 Dual 867MHz, 2GB+, 380GB storage, 10.3.2

Well, after a week of recovering lost data and ironing out
wrinkles, I thought that I was back up to 100%... Except
that now, when I startup as usual from my main drive, there
is a LONG pause as the Finder loads (like, two minutes)...
During this long pause, the desktop wallpaper appears---but
there's no menu, no dock, no HD icons, no nothing except
the whirling-pizza-of-death cursor. It occurred to me that
my Font Reserve Database (which is rather large) might be
taking a long time to load on startup; however, when I
switched off Font Reserve and rebooted, the Finder STILL
takes forever to load. What gives?
