Hello,

I recently acquired G4 "Sawtooth" 350 mhz 256 10g dvd zip that is exhibiting
some frustrating symptoms.

Frequently when I go to start it up there is no chime, just the whirring
noise of the case fan. When this happens the led on the motherboard lights
up and stays on, the led's on the dvd and zip come on momentarily and then
go off.

Then have to hold the power button on the front of the tower in until it
goes off. I often have this happen quite a few times (half a dozen or more)
until I get a successfull startup.

Once started the machine seems to run very stable.

Usually it will work if I select restart from the "Special"menu, but almost
never if I choose "shut down" or "sleep".

I have:
reseated and switched out the RAM modules.

unhooked different of the ide drives to see if one was
causing the problem.

reseated the cpu

tryed starting with the usb keyboard attached and unattached

mouse and no mouse

checked the pram battery

reset the PMU (power management unit)on the logic

And so far none of these steps has produce any change in the behavior of the
computer.

If anyone has any insights ( especially those who might make a living
working on these things ) I would be extremely grateful for your help.

thanks for reading,
Richard
