To further add to the mix, OWC's site says the Orange Link and MacAlly combo cards don't work with Rev. A Beige G3s. Is this true of any others? Can I simply swap out the ROM to a Rev. B or C for it to work?

Hello all:

I'm thinking about getting a USB 2.0 Firewire 400 combo card for my Beige G3 running 10.2.8. I'm really confused by these cards. This one from firewire depot:

http://fwdepot.com/thestore/product_info.php/products_id/264

seems to have two internal power supply plugs.

This one from Firewire Direct:

http://www.firewiredirect.com/firewire/products/adapters_pcicombo.shtml

appears to have 1 internal power supply plug

This one from Sonnet:

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tango_2.html

doesn't appear to have any internal power supply and gets all its power from the pci bus.

Then there is the issue of the firewire chip set used, ie the TI vs. the NEC and then I read on the usb side there is two different standards, one works in Mac, one doesn't. (something like ohci v. uhci or something like that) Then there is a sleep issue. Then some have internal ports (what would I use that for?) I'm really confused. I read some posts about different issues, but I'd like to know what is really working well, particularly if sleep is not an issue (I assume I can just turn off sleep and not deal with this). I'm also interested in what is really plug and play on the usb side (if there is such a thing). I turned off the printer last night and my Beige Mac immediately locked up using my existing usb 1 card. On my iBook, I unplug and Mobilepre unit and it locks up. So much for plug and play. Also, I read somewhere that 10.2.8 has native support for usb 2.0, but only it a certain chip set is used. Is that right?
