Hi, my name is Harold and this is my first post to the list. I have a
few Macs at home, the newest being a G3/300, beige, 9.2.2. Yesterday
I tried to install OS 10.3. It was a caotic experience. I wanted to
install it on an external 4G, SCSI HD, with more than 3G free space.
I put the OS X Install Disk 1 on the CD drive, clicked on the
installer icon. It presented a restart button and instructed me to
click on it so installation could begin. I followed the instructions
but the computer wouldn't restart. I took the installation CD out of
the drive and tried to start. It then kept restarting continuously,
that is, it would restart again and again right after what appeared
to be the little Finder icon showed on the middle of the screen.
After a while (I might have done somthing I don't remember) the
question mark appeared and stayed, blinking. I restarted again
pressing the keys to zap the PRam. Only then it started and things
returned to normal.
Question 1: What is it with this OS 10.3 CD that prevents the G3 to
start/find a bootable volume after it has been inside the CD drive
during a restart?
Question 2: Can I install the Panther on this computer?
Thank you.
Harold
