AppleWorks. It can save in several MS Office formats.
The only issue I've ever had is that it doesn't do multiple spreadsheet sheets (IIRC). Therefore, you *might* have problems reading Excel files if they contain multiple sheets.
Appleworks is usable as an Office replacement, but it depends on what features you use regularly.
One of the big gotchas: AW 6 truncates spreadsheet formulas at 126 characters. That includes the meta representation used for functions. This means that complex Excel or even AW 4/5 spreadsheets break when opened by AW 6.
