Appleworks is usable as an Office replacement, but it depends on what features you use regularly.


One of the big gotchas: AW 6 truncates spreadsheet formulas at 126 characters. That includes the meta representation used for functions. This means that complex Excel or even AW 4/5 spreadsheets break when opened by AW 6.
